On July 17, 2016, the professional firefighters of Körmend were called to the neighboring village of Zalaháshágy, where 150 round bales caught fire in an agricultural facility. The flames threatened the nearby forest, cornfield, and approximately two hundred other bales. The fire was extinguished by professional firefighters from Körmend, Zalaegerszeg, and Lenti, as well as the Zala County Disaster Management Operational Service. The firefighters used three water jets and hand tools to carry out the firefighting operations, contained the area, and then, under supervision, burned the bales and extinguished the still smoldering, glowing parts. A fire investigation procedure was initiated to clarify the incident.
On August 4, 2016, straw left in the stubble after harvesting caught fire and spread across approximately 30-40 hectares near Gencsapáti. The professional firefighters from Szombathely responded with two fire trucks and a water transporter, using two water jets and hand tools to control the flames. Thanks to the quick intervention, nearly sixty percent of the straw in the area was saved.
On September 7, 2016, fifteen round bales caught fire between Vasvár and Oszkó. The flames threatened a nearby forest. The municipal firefighters from Vasvár and the professional firefighters from Körmend hurried to extinguish the flames, using four water jets and hand tools. A power machine also arrived at the site and dismantled the bales. The firefighters then soaked the remaining hot, glowing parts.
In the highlighted fire incidents, a total of nearly fifty firefighters participated in the damage control efforts. In addition to professional firefighters, municipal fire units also took part in stopping the fire’s spread and extinguishing the flames as quickly as possible. The municipal firefighters carried out their tasks under the instructions of the disaster management operational service. There were no injuries or fatalities in any of the incidents. The fire incidents resulted in a damage value of 16,017 Euros.
