On June 1, 2022, the undergrowth of a pine forest burned on one hectare in the outskirts of Tokorcs. The firefighters from Sárvár, Pápa, and Szombathely, as well as Celldömölk’s municipal firefighters and the county disaster management operational service, were dispatched to the scene. The units prevented the fire from spreading further and extinguished the flames. The glowing embers were put out with spark catchers and shovels.
On July 11, 2022, the undergrowth of a young acacia forest caught fire on two hectares in the outskirts of Kenyeri. Due to strong winds, there were concerns that the fire could spread to the forest and nearby pine forest, so firefighters from Sárvár, Szombathely, and Pápa, as well as municipal firefighters from Répcelak, and volunteers from Kenyeri and Pápoc were called to assist. The Vas County disaster management operational service also responded. The units used four water jets to contain and extinguish the flames, wetting the surrounding area to prevent further spread. Thanks to the quick response, the fire did not spread further, and only minor damage occurred to the acacia trees. Shortly after, Sárvár professional firefighters were called to a new fire in Gérce, where standing grain was burning. The fire covered approximately ten hectares. A water transport vehicle arrived from Szombathely to assist with the firefighting. The firefighters attacked the flames from both sides, using two water jets, hand tools, and the transport vehicle’s slope sprayer to bring the fire under control.
On July 18, 2022, a fire broke out on the roadside in the outskirts of Vasegerszeg, along the 86 main road. The vegetation, burning in three separate hotspots about 100 meters apart along the main road, spread to adjacent shrub and wooded areas. Municipal firefighters from Répcelak, and professional firefighters from Sopronkövesd and Szombathely responded. Several water jets and hand tools were used to control the flames. The fire burned over an area of about 300 m². During firefighting, a partial traffic restriction was in place on the affected section of the 86 main road. In the same day, stubble caught fire over approximately six hectares in the outskirts of Vönöck. The fire spread to the forest strip dividing the two agricultural areas and to the roadside ditch vegetation. In accordance with a high-level alert, alongside Celldömölk’s municipal firefighters, professional firefighters from Sárvár, Kapuvár, and Pápa worked to contain the flames. Water transport vehicles arrived from Pápa and Ajka to assist with water supply, and the disaster management operational service also responded. The firefighters attempted to contain the fire from multiple directions. A farming machine helped by creating a protective plow line to prevent the fire from spreading. The units extinguished the flames using five water jets and hand tools, then inspected the area and eliminated any remaining embers.
On July 20, 2022, two hectares of a twelve-hectare wheat stubble field burned in the outskirts of Nemesbőd. The fire also endangered bales of straw stacked on the field, and there were concerns that it could spread to surrounding shrubland. Professional firefighters from Szombathely extinguished the flames with three water jets and hand tools. Thanks to the quick intervention, the bushland was protected, though eight bales were destroyed in the fire.
On August 8, 2022, a farmer working in his field in Nárai, Árpád Street, accidentally started a fire when a spark flew out of the exhaust of his machine, igniting three nearby straw bales due to the dry conditions. The tractor driver noticed the fire, plowed around the area, and spread the burning material with the machine to control the fire. Professional firefighters from Szombathely used one water jet and hand tools to extinguish the flames. Four hectares of dry grass burned near Nemeskocs, and the fire spread to the undergrowth of a nearby forest strip. In addition to professional firefighters from Sárvár, Pápa, and Szentgotthárd, municipal firefighters from Celldömölk, and volunteer units from Egyházashetye and Kamond were called to the scene.
In total, more than two hundred firefighters participated in dealing with the damages during the highlighted fire incidents. In addition to professional firefighters, municipal and volunteer firefighting units were involved in preventing the fire from spreading and quickly extinguishing the flames. All tasks were carried out under the instructions of the Vas County disaster management operational service. No injuries or fatalities occurred in any of the incidents. The total damage from the fires amounted to 30,000 Euros.
